School Chapel Message (Breakfast with Mom Day)
Never Outnumbered
2 Kings 6:8-17
16 And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them.
17 And Elisha prayed, and said, LORD, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the LORD opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha.
Intro: Being outnumbered is no fun. I remember once when I got chased in South Africa by a van load of bandits.
One of the greatest reasons that people do not serve God is they feel they are outnumbered.
Somehow, they have been convinced that they cannot do it because they are not strong enough, not knowledgeable enough, not confident enough.
Fear is a terrible thing.
Notice in this story in 2 Kings 6
A. The Force that was Holding Them – vs. 14
B. The Fear that was Horrifying Them – vs. 15
C. The Facts that were Hidden from Them – vs. 17
Paul the Apostle said it like this:
- Romans 8:31 What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?
David – against a giant and his armor bearer
I Samuel 17
Benaiah – against two lionlike men and a lion and an Egyptian of great stature.
I Chronicles 11
- 22 Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, the son of a valiant man of Kabzeel, who had done many acts; he slew two lionlike men of Moab: also he went down and slew a lion in a pit in a snowy day.
- 23 And he slew an Egyptian, a man of great stature, five cubits high; and in the Egyptian’s hand was a spear like a weaver’s beam; and he went down to him with a staff, and plucked the spear out of the Egyptian’s hand, and slew him with his own spear.
- 24 These things did Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and had the name among the three mighties.
Abishai – against 300
- 1 Chronicles 11:20 And Abishai the brother of Joab, he was chief of the three: for lifting up his spear against three hundred, he slew them, and had a name among the three.
Shamgar – against 600
- Judges 3:31 And after him was Shamgar the son of Anath, which slew of the Philistines six hundred men with an ox goad: and he also delivered Israel.
Adino – against 800
- 2 Samuel 23:8 These be the names of the mighty men whom David had: The Tachmonite that sat in the seat, chief among the captains; the same was Adino the Eznite: he lift up his spear against eight hundred, whom he slew at one time.
Samson – against 1,000
- Judges 15:15 And he found a new jawbone of an ass, and put forth his hand, and took it, and slew a thousand men therewith.
Without number versus 300 men (Judges 7:6)
Judges 6:3-6
- 2 And the hand of Midian prevailed against Israel: and because of the Midianites the children of Israel made them the dens which are in the mountains, and caves, and strong holds.
- 3 And so it was, when Israel had sown, that the Midianites came up, and the Amalekites, and the children of the east, even they came up against them;
- 4 And they encamped against them, and destroyed the increase of the earth, till thou come unto Gaza, and left no sustenance for Israel, neither sheep, nor ox, nor ass.
- 5 For they came up with their cattle and their tents, and they came as grasshoppers for multitude; for both they and their camels were without number: and they entered into the land to destroy it.
- 6 And Israel was greatly impoverished because of the Midianites; and the children of Israel cried unto the LORD.
Conclusion: 1 John 4:4 Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
