Intro: The news has been filled lately with the story of Jeffrey Epstein. He learned to play the piano at the age of 5. He skipped two grades and graduated from high school at the age of 16. He was a multi-millionaire. He was friends with presidents and world leaders. He owned his own island. Many houses. Planes. Lived a life of luxury and had everything he wanted. He sold his soul to the devil. He lived a life of sexual depravity, lust, greed and crime. And on August 10th, once Satan was finished with him, he left Jeffrey Epstein hanging in his prison cell.
Satan is a master deceiver. He will dangle something attractive in front of you, only to disappoint you.
Satan will chew you up and spit you out.
He will play with you and use you and abuse you and when he’s finished with you, he will destroy you.
Satan will lead you along and when he’s finished with you, he will leave you hanging!
Satan’s ultimate desire for each person is their total and complete destruction.
- John 10:10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
This morning, we will look at three examples of men in the Bible that the devil LEFT HANGING!
He wants to do the same thing to you!
Haman was LEFT HANGING…
I. After a Life of Revenge
Notice the cause of Haman’s hatred toward Mordecai – Esther 3:5
Haman built a gallows 50 cubits high – Esther 5:14
He was hung on his own gallows.
- Proverbs 26:27 Whoso diggeth a pit shall fall therein: and he that rolleth a stone, it will return upon him.
- Ecclesiastes 10:8 He that diggeth a pit shall fall into it; and whoso breaketh an hedge, a serpent shall bite him.
God’s warning to the believer:
- Romans 12:19 Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.
Absalom was LEFT HANGING…
II. After a Life of Rebellion – II Samuel 18:9
Absalom’s had a daddy that was a man after God’s own heart.
David made mistakes, but David was a giant killer.
Absalom grew up hearing the stories of his dad’s bravery, courage and love for God.
Absalom had a daddy that fought the battles with the power and hand of God upon him.
Absalom had a daddy that wrote psalms and knew how to worship.
Absalom had a daddy that fought and protected the people of God from the evil enemies.
Absalom had a daddy that had an amazing relationship with God’s man.
Absalom had a daddy that put his relationship with God above everything else.
A daddy that loved the house of God.
A daddy that loved and longed for the presence of God in his life.
A daddy that responded to preaching.
A daddy that went to the altar and wept and repented and got right with God when he sinned.
But Absalom rebelled against his teaching.
He rebelled against his training.
He rebelled against his father’s advice to “WALK not in the counsel of the ungodly, no stand in the way of sinners, nor sit in the seat of the scornful…”
He heard his daddy preach to him “…the ungodly are not so, but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away…”
He disregarded the words of his father in Psalm 34:11-22 (turn there)
Judas Iscariot was LEFT HANGING…
III. After a Life of Rejection – Matthew 27:1-5
Judas Iscariot was handpicked by Jesus Christ to be a disciple.
Judah means “Jehovah leads” (what a irony! He was led by Satan John 13:2
Instead of following Jesus Christ, he allowed the devil to lead him.
And the devil LEFT HIM HANGING!!!
If you continue to reject Christ in pursuit of your own plans, ambitions and life, be prepared!
The devil will lure you away with empty promises, false hopes and destructive lifestyle choices.
Once he’s succeeded in stealing your heart and your mind, he will steal your soul.
He will get you to a place where he can pull the floor out from under you and you’ll be LEFT HANGING!
