I Love My Bible
Psalm 119
Intro: Tuesday is Valentines Day. I preached this morning on I Love My Church, so I thought why not!
I will preach tonight on I Love My Bible!
By the way, I love my King James Bible.
You can have these modern translations that butcher the Word of God.
That takes out entire verses and changes vital doctrines.
That waters down and dilutes key truths.
I had six points this morning on why I love my church.
Tonight, just out Psalm 119, I can give you six simple but very real reasons why I love my Bible.
I. Because of the Thought-life that it gives me – vs. 48, 97, 113
- Psalms 119:48 My hands also will I lift up unto thy commandments, which I have loved; and I will meditate in thy statutes.
- Psalms 119:97 O how love I thy law! it is my meditation all the day.
- Psalms 119:113 I hate vain thoughts: but thy law do I love.
See Psalm 1:1, 2
II. Because of the Testimonies that it gives me – vs. 119, 167
- Psalms 119:167 My soul hath kept thy testimonies; and I love them exceedingly.
The word TESTIMONY is a legal word.
They use testimonies in the court of law to establish fact.
We have a Bible that tells us who God is and how He is and what His attributes because it is His testimony.
He testifies about Himself.
And in doing so, He exposes and shuts down the wicked.
We say that a key witness had a testimony that was strong enough to “put away” the criminal for a long time.
Look at this verse.
- Psalms 119:119 Thou puttest away all the wicked of the earth like dross: therefore I love thy testimonies.
III. Because of the Treasures that it gives me – vs. 127
- Psalms 119:127 Therefore I love thy commandments above gold; yea, above fine gold.
Psalm 19
- 10 More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.
- 11 Moreover by them is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward.
IV. Because of the Thrill that it gives me – vs. 47, 159
- Psalms 119:47 And I will delight myself in thy commandments, which I have loved.
- Psalms 119:159 Consider how I love thy precepts: quicken me, O LORD, according to thy lovingkindness.
Notice how many times David said that he delighted in the word of God in just this one chapter.
- Psalms 119:16 I will delight myself in thy statutes: I will not forget thy word.
- Psalms 119:24 Thy testimonies also are my delight and my counsellors.
- Psalms 119:35 Make me to go in the path of thy commandments; for therein do I delight.
- Psalms 119:47 And I will delight myself in thy commandments, which I have loved.
- Psalms 119:70 Their heart is as fat as grease; but I delight in thy law.
- Psalms 119:77 Let thy tender mercies come unto me, that I may live: for thy law is my delight.
- Psalms 119:174 I have longed for thy salvation, O LORD; and thy law is my delight.
V. Because of the Truth that it gives me– vs. 163
- Psalms 119:163 I hate and abhor lying: but thy law do I love.
- Psalms 119:140 Thy word is very pure: therefore thy servant loveth it.
In a world filled with lies, deception and trickery, I love my Bible because it is the truth.
- John 17:17 Sanctify them through thy truth, thy word is truth.
VI. Because of the Temperance that it gives me – vs. 167
- Psalms 119:165 Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them.
Temperance: the quality of being moderate; restraint; avoidance of extremes or excesses; temperance.
Offend: to irritate, annoy, or anger; cause resentful displeasure
I thank God for His word that helps me keep from losing my mind over this crazy world!
We can read it and know what is going on and what is happening.
We are reminded that God is in control and that nothing can happen without His approval.
- Isaiah 26:3 Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.
