Have Faith In God – Pastor Stacey Shiflett

Have Faith In God

Mark 11:12-14; 20-22

Intro: This statement is the essence of the Christian life.

               A. The Possession of Faith – “…have…”

Faith is something you can have.

HAVE: to have, i.e. to hold, to have in the hand, in the sense of wearing, to have possession of

Faith is something you can have.

               B. The Power of Faith – “…faith…”

SEE text:

  • 23 For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.
  • 24 Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.

Faith is the substance…

Faith is the evidence…

The grain of a mustard seed…

  • Matthew 17:20 And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.

               C. The Person of Faith – “…in God.”

The question you need to ask yourself is this: Is God reliable?

  • 1 Thessalonians 5:24 Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.
  • Hebrews 10:23 Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;)

We need faith that God can:

I. Protect our Family

  • Hebrews 11:7 By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.

Noah did what he could do.

Noah did everything God told him to do.

He moved with fear.

He prepared an ark.

But – at the end of all, He had to have faith in God.

He had to relinquish the protection of his family to God.

Who saved Noah’s family?

It was God, because Noah did it God’s way.

II. Punish our Foes

Psalm 27

  • 1 The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?
  • 2 When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell.
  • 3 Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident.
  • 4 One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to enquire in his temple.

We need faith that God can:

III. Provide our Finances

  • Matthew 6:30 Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?
  • SEE Psalm 78:12-22

We need faith that God can:

IV. Produce our Fruit

  • SEE John 15:1-8; 16
  • Psalms 126:6 He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him.

We need faith that God can:

V. Plan our Future

Proverbs 3

  • 5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
  • 6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
