The Sweetness of the Stillness

Psalms 46:10 Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.

Intro:

                A. The ReminderBe still

BE STILL: to sink, relax, sink down, let drop, be disheartened

                B. The Recognitionand know that I am God

KNOW: to be made known, be or become known, be revealed; to recognize, admit, acknowledge, confess; to perceive and see, find out and discern

                C. The ResultsI will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth

NOTE: We can’t act like heathens and expect God to be exalted!

It is during these times of stillness that we can experience the sweetness that is unlike any other.

I. The Sweetness of Delivering Miracles

Moses at the RED SEA

  • Exodus 14:13 And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will shew to you to day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to day, ye shall see them again no more for ever.

II. The Sweetness of Divine Manifestation

I Kings 19

  • 9 And he came thither unto a cave, and lodged there; and, behold, the word of the LORD came to him, and he said unto him, What doest thou here, Elijah?
  • 10 And he said, I have been very jealous for the LORD God of hosts: for the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.
  • 11 And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the LORD. And, behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the LORD; but the LORD was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the LORD was not in the earthquake:
  • 12 And after the earthquake a fire; but the LORD was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.
  • 13 And it was so, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle, and went out, and stood in the entering in of the cave. And, behold, there came a voice unto him, and said, What doest thou here, Elijah?

III. The Sweetness of a Discerning Message

The Message from Caleb to Israel

  • Numbers 13:30 And Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said, Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it.

The Message from Naomi to Ruth

  • Ruth 3:18 Then said she, Sit still, my daughter, until thou know how the matter will fall: for the man will not be in rest, until he have finished the thing this day.
