Satan’s Subtle Strategies

Genesis 3:1 Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?

2 Corinthians 2:11 Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices,

Intro: The researchers have revealed that “Four out of ten Christians (40%) strongly agreed that Satan ‘is not a living being but is a symbol of evil.’ An additional two out of ten Christians (19%) said they ‘agree somewhat’ with that perspective. A minority of Christians indicated that they believe Satan is real by disagreeing with the statement: one-quarter (26%) disagreed strongly and about one-tenth (9%) disagreed somewhat.” (Barna)

Satan is a key figure throughout the entire Bible.

He appears in Genesis 3:1 and is found until Revelation 20.

He appeared as a SERPENT and was called a SERPENT in Revelation 20:2

God’s word tells us that he was more subtle than another other beast of the field.

That characterization has never changed.

I. Satan’s Adversaries

A. Satan is the Adversary of God’s Person

Isaiah 14

  • 12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!
  • 13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:
  • 14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.
  • 15 Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.
  • 16 They that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee, and consider thee, saying, Is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms;
  • 17 That made the world as a wilderness, and destroyed the cities thereof; that opened not the house of his prisoners?

B. Satan is the Adversary of God’s People

  • I Peter 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.

No matter if you are the most anointed preacher in the world, or a brand new convert, you will be attacked and assaulted by the devils of hell from the moment you’re saved until you are no longer a threat to Satan and his kingdom.

C. Satan is the Adversary of God’s Plan

No matter what God’s plan involves, Satan’s number priority is to thwart God’s plan.

  • 1 Thessalonians 2:18 Wherefore we would have come unto you, even I Paul, once and again; but Satan hindered us.

D. Satan is the Adversary of God’s Precepts

Satan hates the Scripture.

He has done everything within his power since the Garden of Eden to discredit and destroy it.

One of his greatest achievements is to make so many believer’s think they have God’s word, when they do not.

They have false substitutes. It lacks the power, the authority, the integrity, the truth, the doctrine.

II. Satan’s Arsenal

  • 2 Corinthians 2:11 Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices,

A. Deception

  • Genesis 3:4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:
  • 1 Timothy 2:14 And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.
  • 2 Corinthians 11:3 But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.

NEVER MISTAKE THE VOICE OF SATAN FOR THE VOICE OF GOD!!!

Satan is the FATHER OF LIES.

  • John 8:44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

B. Distrust

  • Genesis 3:5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.

If Satan can get you to doubt God and God’s intentions for you, he’s got you.

C. Delusions

  • Genesis 3:5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.

Other strategies

Distractions – worked on Achan

Discouragement

Disappointments – Judas Iscariot expected an earthly kingdom.

  • John 13:26 Jesus answered, He it is, to whom I shall give a sop, when I have dipped it. And when he had dipped the sop, he gave it to Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon. And after the sop Satan entered into him. Then said Jesus unto him, That thou doest, do quickly.

Despair

Disagreements

Dissatisfaction

III. Satan’s Advantage

A. When we are Ignorant

  • 2 Corinthians 2:11 Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

If you do not realize what you’re dealing with, you will become a casualty.

 B. When we are Indifferent

  • I Peter 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.

C. When we are Intimidated

  • James 4:7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

Ephesians 6:10-14

  • 10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.
  • 11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
  • 12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
  • 13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
  • 14 Stand therefore,
