Let God Work

  • Genesis 2:2 And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.

Intro:

A. God has a Reputation

Genesis chapter 1 is a perfect display of God’s character.

He is always working!

  • Genesis 2:2 And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.

God never stops working.

He wants to work in your heart.

He wants to work in your marriage.

He wants to work in your children.

He wants to work in your church, your nation.

God has a reputation for working!

  • John 5:17 But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh hitherto, and I work.

B. God has a Reason

  • Philippians 2:13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.

God likes to work!

God loves working in mine and your life.

It pleases Him to work, and it pleases Him to see the results of His work.

  • Hebrews 13:21 Make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is wellpleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

C. God has a Request

God’s request is simple; Let Him work!

I can’t help but think that God made man last so he wouldn’t have any opposition to His plan.

Notice how many times God said “Let…” in Genesis chapter 1.

  • verse 3 Let there be light…
  • verse 6 Let their be a firmament…and let it divide the waters….
  • verse 9 Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together…and let the dry land appear
  • verse 11 Let the earth bring forth grass…
  • verse 14 Let there be lights in the firmament…and let them be for signs…and for lights…
  • verse 20 Let the waters bring forth abundantly
  • verse 24 Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind….

BUT – when He got to man, he said “LET US…”

  • Making man required a convening of the God-head!
  • Of all God’s creation – man is the only one that gets in His way!
  • Of all God’s creation – man is the only One that requires the working of the ENTIRE GODHEAD!
  • God said – LET US MAKE MAN…
  • Man is the only creation that has God’s actual literal fingerprints on it. HE FORMED MAN 2:7

God’s request is simple; Let Him work!

I. Let God Work through your Conversion

A. Let Him Work the Work of Salvation

  1. John 6:29 Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.
  2. John 10:25 Jesus answered them, I told you, and ye believed not: the works that I do in my Father’s name, they bear witness of me.
  3. John 10:32 Jesus answered them, Many good works have I shewed you from my Father; for which of those works do ye stone me?
  4. John 10:37 If I do not the works of my Father, believe me not.
  5. John 10:38 But if I do, though ye believe not me, believe the works: that ye may know, and believe, that the Father is in me, and I in him.
  6. John 14:10 Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.
  7. John 14:11 Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works’ sake.

B. Let Him Work the Work of Sanctification

God has a desire to sanctify and use each one of us.

This is called the work of Progressive Sanctification.

  • Hebrews 13:21 Make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is wellpleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
  • Ephesians 1:11 In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will:

II. Let God Work through your Confidence

Paul the Apostle was sure of one thing – that God would finish what He started.

  • Philippians 1:6 Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:

Our lack of faith in God’s desire to work will prevent Him from working.

  • Matthew 13:57-58 And they were offended in him. But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, save in his own country, and in his own house. And he did not many mighty works there because of their unbelief.

Their lack of faith literally tied the hands of God.

  • Psalm 78:40-42 How oft did they provoke him in the wilderness, and grieve him in the desert! Yea, they turned back and tempted God, and limited the Holy One of Israel. They remembered not his hand, nor the day when he delivered them from the enemy.

III. Let God Work by through Cooperation

  • Colossians 1:29 Whereunto I also labour, striving according to his working, which worketh in me mightily.
  • Mark 16:20 And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following.
