Jesus Saves!

Luke 19:10

Intro: One of the most familiar phrases in Christianity today is “Jesus Saves.” We have a beloved hymn in our songbook entitled “Jesus Saves”. You will see billboards down south with those words on it. You will see bumper stickers and Bible covers with those words.

Jesus is:

I. Unwavering in His Objective

  • Matthew 1:21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.
  • John 3:17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
  • 1 John 4:14 And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world.

Jesus was sent by His Father to save sinners.

Jesus was born to a virgin named Mary to save sinners.

Jesus lived for 33 ½ years on this earth for the purpose of searching out and saving sinners.

Jesus died on the cross, rose again the third day so He could save sinners.

He didn’t come to earth for the scenery.

  • John 6:38 For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me.

He didn’t come to earth to impress the religious leaders.

  • Matthew 23:13 But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in.

He didn’t come down to show everybody what he could do.

Mark 7

  • 33 And he took him aside from the multitude, and put his fingers into his ears, and he spit, and touched his tongue;
  • 34 And looking up to heaven, he sighed, and saith unto him, Ephphatha, that is, Be opened.
  • 35 And straightway his ears were opened, and the string of his tongue was loosed, and he spake plain.
  • 36 And he charged them that they should tell no man: but the more he charged them, so much the more a great deal they published it;

He didn’t come down here to judge and condemn sinners.

  • John 3:17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

 

II. Unequaled in His Operation

There’s not another person, another god, another man-made deity that can do what Jesus can do.

He is the only One that can perform the necessary work that we call salvation.

  • Isaiah 43:11 I, even I, am the LORD; and beside me there is no savior.
  • Isaiah 45:21 Tell ye, and bring them near; yea, let them take counsel together: who hath declared this from ancient time? who hath told it from that time? have not I the LORD? and there is no God else beside me; a just God and a Saviour; there is none beside me.
  • Hosea 13:4 Yet I am the LORD thy God from the land of Egypt, and thou shalt know no god but me: for there is no saviour beside me.

Talking about Jesus Christ:

  • Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

Mark 2

  • 5 When Jesus saw their faith, he said unto the sick of the palsy, Son, thy sins be forgiven thee.
  • 6 But there were certain of the scribes sitting there, and reasoning in their hearts,
  • 7 Why doth this man thus speak blasphemies? who can forgive sins but God only?
  • 8 And immediately when Jesus perceived in his spirit that they so reasoned within themselves, he said unto them, Why reason ye these things in your hearts?
  • 9 Whether is it easier to say to the sick of the palsy, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and take up thy bed, and walk?
  • 10 But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (he saith to the sick of the palsy,)
  • 11 I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy bed, and go thy way into thine house.
  • 12 And immediately he arose, took up the bed, and went forth before them all; insomuch that they were all amazed, and glorified God, saying, We never saw it on this fashion.

Acts 16

  • 30 And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?
  • 31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.

 

III. Unfailing in His Outcome

Jesus can save anybody.

  • Romans 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

No one that has ever come to Jesus for salvation has ever been turned away.

  • John 6:37 All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.

Jesus can save the worst of the worst.

  • 1 Timothy 1:15 This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.

I Corinthians 6

  • 9 Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind,
  • 10 Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.
  • 11 And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.
